Huh?

So I received my workout report for last week from dailymile.com the other day.

Just under 3o miles swimming, biking, and running ... but best of all 2338 calories burned! That has to count for something, right? That has to get me closer to my weight loss goal, right?

Here's last week's weigh-in ...

And here's this week's weigh-in ...

Yes, that's right I burned 2338 calories working out 6 days this past week and gained 2 pounds!

What would Bob and Jillian say?

Probably, stop eating this ...

Less than 2 minutes ...

If you knew you could make someone's day in less than 2 minutes would you do it? If it took less than 2 minutes to express love to your spouse in a practical way, would it be worth it?

Hopefully the answer is "yes".

A number of years ago, my wife and I were introduced to "The Five Love Languages" by Dr. Gary Chapman. Long story short, I found that my wife really feels loved by what Chapman describes as "acts of kindness". She's not big on flowers, but she loves when I do something for her.

Anyway a couple of weeks ago I thought, "What can I do to help make her day?" As I stood there looking at the crumpled bed I had just rolled out of, I decided to make it. I found that it took me less than 2 minutes ... 1:45.93 to be exact.

Less than 2 minutes to say "I love you" in a practical way. We too often overlook the little things that make big statements.

Take a couple of minutes to show someone your love.

Take three ...

2010 will be my third triathlon season. I waited kind of late in life to start a sport like triathlon, but I figure in another 20 years I'll be a seasoned veteran and have a better shot of winning my age division. Ever since the beginning in 2008, I've said my goal has been to complete not compete. Though I have had a secondary goal of not finishing last in my age group. So far I have participated, completed, and not-finished-last in all six tri's that I have entered. Apparently I can accomplish those goals so it's time to bump it up a bit.

My goals for this year are:
  1. Get my 5K time under 35 minutes ... yes I know that's slow, but you ought to see how slow I have been in the past. So my goal this year is to get a little faster. Baby steps ...
  2. Get my 12 mile bike time under 40 minutes ... not as slow as the run, but still needs work.
  3. Finish a Sprint Tri in under 1:30:00 ... a Sprint Tri is a 500m swim / 12mi bike / 5K run
  4. Finally, lose weight ... I figure if I can lose the weight it will help me accomplish the first three. So maybe this should be first on my list.
So, here I go ...

This is where I started 2010:

... and this is where I am today.

Not bad, but this is where it starts getting harder. Those first few lbs seem to fall right off. The rest need heavy artillery.

But I'm determined to get below 200 this season for more than 5 minutes ... who knows, by next year maybe I can start competing.

Here comes the sun ...

So my buddy Joe texts me and says "I see blue sky and sun." I look out my window and see only gray. He was ready for a bike ride ... I was too, but it looked too cold for my tastes. I was talked into it, though.

It was still gray when we started. It turned grayer for Joe when his chain broke halfway through the ride ... bummer. So I head back to get my truck so I can go back and pick him up. As I do, the sun starts to peek out and naturally I begin to sing Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles (not very well but no one else is in the truck).

I had really given up hope of seeing the sun today ... just decided I'd catch it another day ... hopefully tomorrow. But here it came in all it's glory. Just what I'd hoped for, just not when I had hoped for it.

I was reminded how easy it is for us to give up what we hope for when we don't see it in our timing. Yet when we are patient, at just the right time, the Son comes out and reminds us of our hope.

Here comes the Son ... and I say it's alright.

Reboot

So in April of 2008 I decided to start a blog. It lasted one whole post. I don't know what happened ... I guess I just never got back to it. I decided the other day that I wanted to start again ... a reboot. I couldn't think of a better name for it so I just kept the old name, the original post, and changed a few colors.

My youngest, Dylan the film expert, tells me that's what they call it when they remake a movie that didn't do so well, but the idea was still a good one ... or something like that. He said the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of the Incredible Hulk story that didn't do so well in the 2003 movie The Hulk.

Clear as mud?

Anyway, this is my reboot.
