A little background

No, I don't have a thing for dead dogs, nor do I want dogs to be dead. In fact, I like dogs . . . have had one most of my life (not the same one ... that would be weird).

I picked this name based on a couple of things:

  1. In the Old Testament story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9, Mephibosheth refers to himself as a "dead dog" upon receiving the undeserved kindness of King David. I like the story. I think it tells our story. Just as Mephibosheth received the kindness and blessing of the king, we too have been offered the kindness and blessing -- the grace -- of God. I am thankful for the grace shown to this "dead dog".

  2. I like cycling and in my various rides I have seen my share of dead dogs and other forms of deceased wildlife. In fact, my friend Heather likes to slow down and try to identify exactly what species we are passing (and smelling).

So what does this tell us? Perhaps not much. Perhaps it means all of the good blog names have been taken and so I found something that matched two points in my multi-faceted life and grabbed on.

I will probably talk very little about actual dead dogs and hopefully more about God's work in our lives and the effects of bicycling on my life . . . and other things that pop into my head.
